With so many books to choose from, it can be hard to find the best ones to read to your kids! Sometimes it’s fun to read the books with the best pictures. But we think there is so much more than that to a good children’s story!
We will be using taking into acount 4 things to come up with out rating on a scale from 1-10:
The art of a children’s book can often make or break it. If you want your child to be engaged in the story and learn the lesson it’s trying to teach, good art will often make that happen. We will be rating the art both on how it looks, and also by how well it meshes with and helps tell the story.
Speaking of the story, that’s our next category! With children’s books, the challenge is fitting enough story into the few words you’re allotted to write. The plus though is you have the art to help you along the way. That’s why it’s so important to make the two work together! We will be rating the story based on how it conveys what it’s trying to and readability.
How important are lessons in a story? We think that’s a huge factor. But the lessons have to flow naturally from the story and not seem forced. We won’t be rating based on the actual lessons themselves so much as on how they fit with the story.
Our last rating will be a combination of how much our kids liked the story in general, and how memorable it is to them.
We are excited to be posting our first book review tomorrow and hope everyone likes it and finds it helpful!
